Gross - horn
Dale Clevenger, conductor
Capella Istropolitana of Bratislava
American premiere
recording of several Baroque horn Concerti. Two are found in the
recently discovered Lundt manuscript in Sweden. Remaining works are of
similar interest. The Neruda Concerto, usually performed by trumpet, is
played by the instrument originally specified, the horn. Bach's
Brandenburg Concerto no. 2 is rendered with horn instead of trumpet.
This interpretation is of important historical interest, since the
trumpet of choice during Bach's time, the
American Record Guide
says of his playing: ...an excellent tone and the ability and
temperatment to play heroically.
